From STEM to STEAM, the A stands for something creative, innovative, impactful and yet, under-rated. The A stands for Arts, an area of study and work which holds as much opportunities and an area which certainly can’t be taken over by AI for the lack of raw creativity which can best come from a human mind and heart however, can surely be done better with the inclusion of technology and sustainable methods of development.

From my experience, a very small percentage of enquiries come for subjects falling under Arts and I attribute the shortage to lack of awareness of what wonders can one do in this area. So many students join English, History, Political Science, Geography, Psychology, Sociology, Fine Arts, Philosophy, Music, Languages etc. but, fewer get touched by the magic of creativity and so, the rest and majority ends up struggling in their careers.

A shift from choosing Arts accidentally or due to no other choice, to choosing Arts consciously and with an itch to nurture the creativity hidden inside learners, I personally believe that there lies tremendous scope and growth in this area. And the change must begin from schools, be it the grades which forced a kid to join Arts after secondary school or be it a choice by will, the onus is on the educators to show what this amazing area of study holds beyond the books and help students find the right path.

Arts is not the Beginning of a Failure but Quite the Opposite! Across all major economies, India, USA, UK, Europe, New Zealand, Australia, UAE, Asia and Canada, there is a shortage of professionals in the Marketing, Creative Professionals, Economics, Multi-Disciplinary Departments and more that stems from Arts yet, the area lacks recognition.

To take Italy as an example, a hub for Design welcomes students from around the globe to learn about sustainable and technologically advanced forms of design and creativity like Fashion, User, Business, Interior and more.

To take Dubai as an example, a perfect one for stressing upon the scope of development through creativity, sustainability and innovation.

If you are a secondary school student then considering Arts as your preferred stream could be a game changer for you.

If you are a university student then paying more attention to what’s being taught and all that can be done practically outside the classroom could make all the difference.

If you are a working professional then identifying where your strength lies in the field of Arts and upskilling yourself could give the edge you just might need.

Look out with an open mind and the world can be your oyster!
